RE: New Honda

When the gen won't run unless the choke is on means that the jets are a bit clogged....just put some carb cleaner through it and use Stabil in the fuel when storing.

RE: Valve Stems

I always treat my tires and stems to 303 Protectant, it's a gteat UV screen, a few times a year.
Good info on those valves, next tire change I will specify upgraged stems.

RE: Lost a dear camping buddy today

Always the toughest part of dog ownership, wait a few months and go to the local shelter, just to look of course!
Somehow my wife and I always come back with a new friend, the last one is named Duke and he is laying by my feet right now as I type this.
Sorry for your lose.

RE: Slide Out Lights not working

I had the same problem on my Cougar 5th wheel, the lights worked fine when we picked it up but soon stopped working. On the Cougar the lights are 12v and the wires run under the slide out, held in place by a spring to help support the cable when extended. When I looked under the slideout I found that wire had pinched against the frame and got sliced. I was suprised the fuse didn't blow but thinking about it now they wouldn't pop unless there was power to the light when it happened.
I cut away some of the insulation and soldered the wires back up and the light worked fine. I also wrapped some electrical tape around it and moved the cable and the spring support a bit to keep it from rubbing against the frame.
On edit I reread your post and noticed you said BOTH slideouts, so now I'm not so sure we had the same issue unless there is a single feed for both.

RE: Is NorthStar under water?

Every house my wife and I ever owned flooded at some time, words can't describe the feeling of seeing your home and your neighbors damaged by water.
I just hope that area can hold on and no more lives are lost.

RE: A pondering on Accumulator tanks

What are you gaining with an accumulator tank or tanks? I can't see that the water pump runs less time overall?
Granted the pump won't come on every time you open a faucet and it might be quieter but what's the big deal, plus your just adding more points of possible leakage.
And I find with the pump going off all the time my wife and I are more cognizant of water usage and a slight leak somewhere might go unnoticed for some time with an accumulator tank, not so without one.

RE: Installing A/Cond and generator in the camper

My Eu2000 ran my Polar Cub no problem, of course not with the many 110Ac accessories running such as coffee maker, toaster oven etc.
Even my Dometic 13.5 btu AC in my fiver works with my Honda but not at altitude.

RE: Remote propane level indicator, anyone using it?

Another piece of Chinese crap...as others have said the gauge fluctuates due to external temperature.
Weighing the bottle is the only true way of telling the amount of propane left.

RE: Setting up for TC for the first time

Run from a dealer that tells you the truck camper doesn't need to be tied down, very important to get either Torq Lift or a Happyjac system to keep it in place.
Ditch the plastic bed liner, get a nice thick rubber horse mat or get a sprayed in liner, they will help keep it from sliding, also very important.
Browse though the last 2 weeks of posts here and you will get all the imformation you will need, if you get confused post another question you will get an informative and honest reply.
Welcome and best of luck.

Cummins issue, rattling/pinging only @ certain rpms?

On my last trip out pulling our 5th wheel I noticed what sounds like pinging, marbles or rattling sound only at certain rpm's??
At first I thought it might be a lift pump issue (60,000 miles), but I did a search on that and found that there is never any noise associated with a lift pump, only a lose of power and eventual distruction of the injection pump.
The problem rpm's are 1700 & 2100, the more throttle I give at those rpm's the louder the noise. Now if I stop for gas or let it idle for awhile the sound goes away until 10 minutes into getting back on the road towing.
I have been through 4 tanks of diesel since this started with no change in symptoms and there is NO loss of power, at least so far.
Any ideas? Before you say take it to dealer, I'd rather fix it myself.

RE: Slider hitch, or not

I have a manual slider and have used both times we have been out !!
I will always move the slider back when we get to a campground and on the way into some gas stations.
Another advantage to moving the slide rearwards is to give you a better maneuverability, those extra 10" rearward helps.

Interesting Truck Trend article on payload

Just read an article on the Truck Trend web site about max payload and how the manufacturers calculate it.
Especially interesting was what happened when Honda engineers gave their numbers for the Ridgeline.

RE: Cougar 245RKS

We just purchased a 245rks a few months ago, my wife and I had a Northstar Laredo truck camper for 4 years before getting the Cougar.
For us it's a perfect camper, nice and small, easy to tow (NOT by a 1/2 ton), with slide out plenty of room for the two of us. Of course storage space is almost unlimited compared to the Laredo. Remember too with the 245 the chassis/suspension and tires are the same as their much bigger models so there is some safety margin built into those components.
Will have to keep an eye out on the the Mission tires though, some people have had issues with Chinese tires.
We have a manual slider hitch because of the shortbed, we use that feature on just about every camping trip, as others have said a long bed won't need that option.
The quality of the Keystone is very good, for a mid/low priced unit it has very good quality and bang for the buck. It's not a 4 season trailer by any stretch of the imagination. We really miss the double pane plexi windows on the Northstar though.
Again coming from a truck camper we were surprised at the what we got for the money compared to the truck camper.
Feel free to PM me with any questions.
Regards
Ron W.

RE: Where to Stop???????????

One pet peeve with gas stations is why they hide the diesel pump. Why can't they have a sign, flag or something that can be seen from the road as you drive by.
I'm new at towing a fiver and still get nervous when forced to enter a gas station, I know in time I'll get better at towing but for the time being fueling gives me heart burn.
